I’ve started calling around different dealers to see what kind of prices they’re asking for on the Miata and it seems like they’re willing to play ball. May be the impending release of the more powerful 2019. I’ll just have to figure out where to store it. Oh, and get the wife’s permission first.
How would everybody spec theirs?

Am I allowed to spec the Fiata out instead?

Sure, though I’m pretty stuck on the ND. I just really like how it looks compared to the Fiat.

I want that extra power and the new seats, so I guess I’ll be waiting a few more years for a well-spec’ed ‘19 to depreciate...

Are they playing “Thousands off the sticker price” ball or “We won’t scam you” ball?

Doing a little speculative math for ‘18 vs ‘19:
Assuming they weigh the same and gearing is unchanged,
155 hp / 181 hp = ~.85
.85 * 5.8 seconds to 60 = 4.9 seconds to 60.
This is a very rough estimate, but all else held equal, the ‘19 could do a sub-5-second 0-60. If they make it lighter too, we’ve got a monster. Wait for the official ‘19 specs before buying an ‘18...

Doing a reverse bid with a few now. I’ll definitely have to find another garage space though. Only a two car garage and we have massive fir trees on our lot. Wind storms suck.

They need new colors on the ‘19 for it to be the perfect answer.
None of the stock colors do it for me :(

Would really need to see the dyno of the car and that’d yield a more accurate calculation of acceleration. Plus we don’t know gearing and weight changes.

I just hope they’re not sacrificing low-end torque for that power output. They will BRZ themselves out of being fast if they do :(

That’s not how that works. The gains are coming from better high RPM breathing and a higher limit. It won’t spend much(and definitely not all) it’s time at a 20% higher output.
Plus more than that will set it’s times.

I think what I want is a base manual with no options. So custom ordered.

I’d get the auto (of course) with highest trim, probably, because I can’t afford my cars to be just toys for track or twisty back roads. I use them daily. I want to hear my music from my phone, etc. Maybe there are some options that I don’t need, but I’d have to spec it out. I don’t do bare bones cars.

I could own one in Soul Red, but YES.

I get base because I enjoy modifying my cars. I typically order most of the chassis bits while the car is being built/purchased.

They’re really willing to take a lot off. It’s fantastic. Strange that the Fiata seems to be the exact opposite...
I approve of this idea. Especially if you get one in white. Mmmm.

My ideal ND setup:
Base model vert/RF
OEM LSD from the Club model, no BBS wheels or Brembo brakes
maybe the OEM/Mazdaspeed body kit
or
RF with malfunctioning top, preferable base model for LSD plan as noted above
gut convertible mechanisms except for the one that drops the rear window
weld the roof panels in place to make the long-awaited NB2 coupe successor
I don’t care for the GPS nor the way it’s mounted on the car, I just want to be able to spin both tires when I gas it through corners. I’d rather start with the base model and build it up the way I want to for track days or autocross. The hardest part is that you’ll probably have to buy a LSD either through Mazda or find one being parted out and hope it’s not damaged there.

I find the ND to be a little too screamer-faced. The Fiat, IMO, is a little more laid back in the styling.
I’d just have to move the badge on the trunk to the rear of the car, not the rear-top.

Don’t tempt me.
I want a cloth top, in Soul Red, Manual, Club (“GS” where I’m from) so badly.
Unfortunately, they start at like, $34,000+fees+tax, so I’d be in it for about 40 grand out the door, with a bit of discount.

And I’m the complete opposite. I want absolutely stock.

I tried doing that and I just got this itch from not tinkering. Be it stuff to improve the life of the car, handle better, play music better, go faster, stop shorter, etc.

Base 6MT Club. That’s all you really need, though I wish they offered a different interior color since 110 deg F + black seats - top = me wondering if my slacks had melted to my legs.

If
you’re
going to pay for it (wow, thanks!), I’d like the Club model, mainly for the LSD, but $3860 difference from the base model!? In fact, aside from the LSD and the shock-tower brace (which would be, what, $200 tops for an aftermarket part?) there’s nothing I want in the Club model that’s not in the base model and a few things I’d actually pay to have taken off.
On second look, I guess the Bilsteins are OK too, but again that’s something you can get from the aftermarket a lot cheaper than $3860, and you could upgrade when the original shocks need replacement.
So here’s my question for you knowledgeable readers. Suppose you bought a base 2018 Miata. How much would it cost to yank the differential and replace it with an LSD?

That’s true; I’d sure like British Racing green, or cherry red, or Smurf Blue like they offered on the NA, but they’re all missing. So of the three colors they offer (white, black, or for $600 extra metallic red) I’d probably go for white.

A wavetrac or giken should be under 1500 easily, I have a lift and can do my own work. I’d rather have Ohlins than factory Bilsteins any day of the week. Good win had a lot of nice chassis braces. Edelbrock has a supercharger with a decent warranty for powertrain.

Thanks, then the base model is definitely the one for me!
Well, not really, since I can’t quite afford that either. Right now I’m shopping around for a used Miata in the $7K-$10K range.

I think the NC is a perfect candidate for a v8 swap. There are tons around in that price range too, minus the swap of course.
